Hart attributes analytics quote to coach Jay Wright during postgame exchange
Josh Hart delivered 26 points as the New York Knicks defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 109-93 in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals at Madison Square Garden. After the game, the Knicks forward offered his view on analytics during the postgame press conference.
Hart said the numbers serve as limited guidance. "I'm never a huge analytics guy. At a certain point, they are a lamp post to a drunk person. You can lean on them, but it won't get you home," he told reporters. He credited the line to his former Villanova coach Jay Wright and added, "At a certain point, you got to have a good feel for the game."
Teammate Karl-Anthony Towns reacted with surprise, removing his glasses and saying, "Oh my god, bruh." When Towns noted he had not heard the remark while playing for John Calipari at Kentucky, Hart replied, "You ain't even go to college," prompting laughter from Towns, who then insisted the exchange continue.
Hart shot 5-of-11 from three-point range after making just 1-of-5 attempts in Game 1. The Knicks and Cavaliers meet again in Game 3 on Saturday.
