Mets radio broadcaster Howie Rose to retire at end of 2026 season

New York Mets radio broadcaster Howie Rose announced on Thursday that the 2026 Major League Baseball season will be his final one in the broadcast booth after joining the team's radio coverage in 1987.[1]

Rose, 72, has served as the primary play-by-play announcer for Mets radio broadcasts since 1995, following his initial role hosting pre- and post-game shows starting in 1987.[1][2]

In a video posted to the Mets' official social media accounts, Rose described the decision as difficult, noting he had debated it for several years due to his age and a desire to spend more time with his wife, Barbara.[1]

Rose plans to broadcast all Mets home games at Citi Field, games at Yankee Stadium and any postseason contests should the team qualify.[1]

He expressed strong attachment to Mets fans, calling their support a key factor in his long tenure, and indicated he would remain involved with the team in an undetermined capacity after retirement.[1]

Rose, who emcees the team's opening day ceremonies, said he would like nothing more than for the Mets to win the World Series in 2026 and hold a ticker-tape parade down the Canyon of Heroes.[1]
