Stanton swipes first steal since 2020 in Yankees' 9-7 win

New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton stole second base for his first stolen base since 2020 during a 9-7 comeback victory over the Miami Marlins on April 4, 2026, at Yankee Stadium. The 36-year-old Stanton reached safely in the bottom of the seventh inning with J.C. Escarra at the plate and Miami pitcher Calvin Faucher on the mound. He scored later on a wild pitch from Faucher as the Yankees rallied from a 4-0 deficit.

Stanton, a power hitter limited to the designated hitter role amid declining speed, entered the game with 42 career stolen bases. His previous high came in 2014 with the Marlins, when he stole 13 bases. His last theft occurred on Aug. 3, 2020, against the Philadelphia Phillies.

At the plate, Stanton went 1-for-3 with two RBI before Randal Grichuk pinch-ran for him. "If they’re going to give it to me like that, I’ve got to go get it," Stanton said afterward. "I’m going to take what they give me and understand where I’m at each day."

The win marked the second game of the interleague series between the AL East Yankees and NL East Marlins.
